The City of Twin Falls said city utility customers can dispose of up to six bags of leaves and small yard debris at no additional cost, according to an announcement posted Oct. 26.
The city said customers should bag the material and place it next to their garbage can on their regular collection day. Each bag must weigh no more than 35 pounds.
The city said leaves mixed with dirt and other debris can clog storm drains and contribute to localized flooding by blocking the routes rainwater and snowmelt use to drain from streets. Residents are encouraged to collect leaves before they blow into streets and clear visible accumulation from sidewalks, gutters and around storm drains, the announcement said.
Collected leaves should be bagged rather than raked or blown into the street, the city said. It added that residents do not need to remove every leaf, and warned never to remove a storm drain grate or cover. City crews also use street sweepers and other equipment to clear debris in heavily affected areas, according to the announcement.
